Perhaps the most visually unique member of Among the Weeds, Jovan realized at a young age that he was something completely different from most people. Not limiting his tastes to one particular style of music was the first point that separated him from many of his peers. He never understood why anyone would miss out on everything that all forms and genres of music had to offer, since it was all so inspiring to him.

Jovan was brought up in the undercurrent of 80's Pop and R&B in Houston, Texas, with his open-minded parents leading the way. They gave little Jovan so much imagination to escape to and nurtured his creativity with love and acceptance. It was when he saw the movie "Purple Rain" in 1985 that he knew he wanted to play guitar. At the tender age of 7, his parents bought him a guitar for Christmas and he's been playing guitar ever since.

As he grew up, he became exposed to androgyny and gender bending, and felt extremely drawn to it and realized that he was an Androgen himself. It was never forced or contrived, it was just who he was all along, deep inside. Dealing with constant rejection from life and people around him, Jovan's only escape was music and imagination. Jovan did a lot of soul searching, and realized that the things he was drawn to were no coincidence. Everything he felt as a child ended up being a part of his life; "Androgyny and Music"; which is where he continues to live his life to the fullest today, in spite of the still ever present prejudice that he has to face.

Jovan relocated from Houston, Texas to Sacramento CA and again to Los Angeles. He moved (to Los Angeles) just to "live life" and actually, overcome a sort of fear he had about Los Angeles in the 90's; mostly due to the stigma that surrounded the place with all the gang violence. What he experienced there was acceptance more than anything else. He didn't think he'd end up meeting the people that would have such an impact on his life.

Yet, it happened. Jovan became part of Among the Weeds in 2007. He had been in many projects prior but nothing that ever stuck, as he realized that most people weren't serious enough about doing music. In his own words, how he came about being a member of the band: "Funny story; I first saw Rose who was a dancer at Bar Sinister (Hollywood, CA) and she immediately caught my attention. There was just something about her and I was rather intimidated. I became friends with this guy and ended up at his birthday party when I discovered Rose was his roommate. I had no idea that she did music, as she was really understated about it; and I was always the same way in a sense. I talk about music a lot but most people don't know I play; and still don't get the instrument (I play) correct on first guess. The three of us were all sitting around talking one night when she invited us both to audition for the project and maybe do it for a bit and see what happens." It would seem obvious that something clicked. Jovan is very much a part of the hard-to-pinpoint sound that Among the Weeds brings.

Jovan is currently single but insists he is attracted only to women; and gets really irritated when people assume otherwise. A self proclaimed thrift store junkie; he likes to spend his spare time shopping and connecting with people; when he can. He often feels that others are judging him rather than just finding out who he is and wishes people could be more open minded. He respects women with a strong sense of individuality and independence; and finds any woman that lives by her own rules a "major turn on".
